Sony has officially announced their answer to Google Glass, a wearable device using “Single-Lens Display Module” that attaches to existing eye wear and tuns it into smartglasses.
Sony’s headset adds a 640 x 400 pixel “High-Resolution Color OLED Microdisplay”, a camera, a processor to any existing eye wear and is capable of showing high-quality full color photos and videos.
The device’s applications are similar to those found on Google Glass, targeting specific activities like sports and entertainment. The company will also provide developers with an SDK.
Sony plans to license out the device to eyewear and tech companies rather than releasing it as its own product and will begin production next year.
The device will be showcased during CES 2015.
