It seems that Snapchat is trapped in a never-ending cycle of evolution as the app is doing its best to outshine its competitors. It’s no surprise, considering that the likes of Instagram, Facebook Messenger and even WhatsApp have mimicked and in some cases outright copied features of Snapchat. Now, Snapchat is looking to target the competitive nature within us in hopes to gain an edge over its rivals with Snapchat game filters.
Keeping with the holiday spirit, Snapchat is offering its most full-fledged, well-produced native game, called Santa’s Helper. You can play the game by simply activating the lenses and scrolling to it. When you do, you’ll get to see your face placed in an elf body that strolls merrily down a path filled with obstacles and gifts. Manoeuvring your character is easy, one just has to tilt their head side to side. You can take a photo or video at any time and post it or share it with friends to challenge others to beat your score.
The competitive edge comes with the sharing of your high score, which can be done either in a direct message or via the stories, in a bid to tempt your friends into playing the game and beating you. Furthermore, due to the temporary nature of Snapchat game lenses, the sense of urgency will bolster users to play it.
