Snapchat 2.0, an upgrade

As of yesterday, Snapchat released a fresh new update for its app. The advent of the update brings about new features to the image and video sharing platform. Firstly is the ability to transition smoothly between chat and video call with the tap of a single button. However, the video call can only be activated if the person on the other end comes online at the same time you’re using the app. Another nifty feature is the option to send voice notes. So, now all of us have the chance to barrage our friends and loved ones with voice notes of our horrendous singing at four in the morning. The new update is christened Chat 2.0

Furthermore, Snapchat has also introduced the feature to make voice calls – this being a perfect way to save up on phone credit for those frugal Snapchatters among us. Even the way you view the Snapstories has been changed. The moment you tap on one Snapstory, it will seamlessly transition into the next story once the previous one has come to an end.

Aside from major changes, there are some minor feature tweaks such as an increase in the number of characters that can be put on text. Along with this is the addition of plethora of new stickers that you can use to better express how bored you are at your afternoon college lecture.

It’s quite obvious that Snapchat is running head long into the category of being a full-fledged messenger, and it’s doing it in all the right places. Could Snapchat one day overtake WhatsApp and Facebook messenger? We will just have to wait and see. Snapchat has a long way to go before it can be considered a holistic messaging app, but so far, it’s taking strides in the right direction.
