Earlier this week Snapchat started rolling out their version of Twitter’s “Verified Tick”: Official Stories. If you search for a VIP account today, you’ll see their username listed under “official stories.”
Such a feature is quite important when trying to find celebrities and public figures, especially since many such celebrities have to use less obvious usernames due to squatters occupying VIP usernames. Case in point would be Justin Bieber who goes by the username “rickthesizzler” on Snapchat since “JustinBieber” is being occupied by a squatter. They also get an emoji next to their name “so you know they’re the real deal,” Snapchat said in a blog post. As a result with the new Official Stories, when a user searches for their favourite pop star by name, the Official Story is shown along with other default search results.
Another such public figure to get an Official Story is none other than Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai. Sheikh Hamdan already has a strong and loyal following on some of the world’s prominent social media networks, with almost 1.4 million followers on Facebook, over 1.37 million on Twitter and over 2.8 million on Instagram. The number of his current Snapchat followers is currently unknown but can be assumed to be similarly high.
Sheikh Hamdan has always been active on social media, often using it as a means of direct and interactive engagement with the public, something his father, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, also keenly does.
You can follow Sheikh Hamdan on Snapchat by using the following username: faz3
