Seagate has announced the world’s first 8 TB hard drives.
The company will release the new 8 TB had drives to enterprise customers working on backups and cloud storage for now, but they won’t be restricted to “select customers” for long according to marketing VP Scott Horn.
As our world becomes more mobile, the number of devices we use to create and consume data is driving an explosive growth in unstructured data. This places increased pressure on cloud builders to look for innovative ways to build cost-effective, high capacity storage for both private and cloud-based data centers,” said Scott Horn, Seagate vice president of marketing.
The 8TB beast uses a standard 3.5″ form factor and 6Gbps SATA interface and will be available in the next quarter.
