CES 2015 promised to be big on the Internet of Things, and so Samsung delivered.
Samsung has unveiled its new smart home products at CES 2015, the company showed off its next-gen Hub with SmartThings. Samsung acquired SmartThings last August for $200 million.
The SmartThings Hub features an updated, more powerful processor, an integrated battery and cellular connectivity options giving the smart home connectivity options if DSL is down.
Samsung has also added a premium subscription service that calls or texts people as soon as a problem is detected at home. The new subscription service also include things like video recordings from connected cameras and alternative alert options.
Since SmartThings was acquired by Samsung this past August our platform has seen tremendous growth and innovation. The number of apps and devices created by our community has doubled to more than 10,000 developers and over one million apps installed, said Alex Hawkinson, CEO and founder of SmartThings. This growth is a testament to the power of openness and we’re excited to bring our users the next generation of our platform for enhanced peace of mind, savings, and convenience.
In addition to the new hub, SmartThings is rolling out “micro” versions of its core sensors, a scaled down versions of its first-generation devices.
The services will be available in the US and Canada from April 2015.
