Samsung has announced a new 16TB SSD (PM1633a) at the 2015 Flash Memory Summit. The achieved capacity comes thanks to the 48-layer 3D TLC NAND that the company announced earlier this week.
Samsung said that it has stacked a number of its 256Gbit (32GB) NAND flash dies in one single piece of hardware. According to the reports, there should around 500 dies inside Samsung’s new 2.5-inch SSD.
Samsung hasn’t announced a price for the PM1633a, but speculations suggest a price tag of $5,000 to $7,000 and will be targeted for enterprise applications.
When do you think we will see this roll out to consumers? We hope soon!
