5 Months after Samsung’s Galaxy Gear Launch, the company is releasing the second generation of its smartwatch, 2 of them to be more precise, and dropping the word “Galaxy” from the mix.
The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo are the latest releases from Samsung’s wearable line of smartwatches. The difference between the 2 models is that the Neo comes without a camera.
The camera on the Gear 2 is now built into the watch body unlike the older model which was in the strap. Samsung has added few new features in both models, a heart-rate sensor, exercise modes, IR emitter to control your TV. Samsung has also added a music players app that can output audio wirelessly to Bluetooth devices .
The biggest change in the the new Gear line is most probably the OS, This generation of Samsung smartwatches is going to be powered Tizen, which Samsung is saying that it’s going to be the official OS of all wearable devices produced by the company.
The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo each have a 320 x 320 1.63-inch touchscreen, a dual-core 1GHz processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of storage and a 300mAh battery that Samsung claims it provides a life of 2-3 days. The Gear 2 also holds a 2MP AF camera with 720p video capture. the Gear 2 weighs 68g, whereas the Neo is 55g.
The Gear 2 brothers will hit the markets in April.
