An interesting report by Financial Times indicates that both Samsung and Apple are in discussions with the mobile telecom industry association (GSMA) to employ a new generation of SIM cards which are electronic. These e-SIMs don’t lock users into a specific carrier and allows users to switch between carriers on the fly, without the need of changing a physical SIM.
“With the majority of operators on board, the plan is to finalise the technical architecture that will be used in the development of an end-to-end remote SIM solution for consumer devices, with delivery anticipated by 2016.” – Anne Bouverot, chief executive of the GSMA
