RIP Plasma TV: Samsung Ends Production

After  Panasonic’s decision to kill the plasma line last year,  Samsung has just announced that it will also pull the plug on production by the end of November, citing “changes in market demand”. The company will now focus on 4K technology and curved HDTVs.

Samsung’s exit from the plasma market  means that LG is now the sole surviving producer of this technology. Sadly, it might not be so for long also, as reports are also coming in that Korea’s number two electronics giant is also thinking about ditching plasma.

Fujitsu produced the first full-colour plasma display panel in 1992, and Philips sold the first models to consumers in 1997.
