Remember the original View-Master? In case you don’t, this is it:

It appears that Mattel has teamed up with Google to bring the all new, all improved next generation View-Master back to life. The 2015 View-Master is built around Google Cardboard and will deliver a true virtual reality and augmented reality experience.

Mattel and Google have also kept the discs and rebranded them to“experience reel”. The View-Master will have a companion app in Google Play and the App Store and can work with your phone inserted into it.

The original View-Master, introduced in 1939, used stereoscopic images to give users a 3Dish images of locations around the world. Similarly, the new View-Master will let users visit “famous places, landmarks, nature, planets and more in 360 degree ‘photospheres”, Mattel said.

We developed Google Cardboard as an open platform to inspire companies like Mattel to rethink how to deliver new user experiences through technology,” Google Cardboard Product Director Mike Jazayeri said in a press release. Many of us on the Google Cardboard team grew up playing with View-Master, so we were excited to collaborate with Mattel and to see the viewer evolve and work with Google Cardboard.

The View-Master for $30 with additional experience reels for $14.99 and will be on sale around October of this year.

Now sit back, relax and watch this epic 70s  View-Master ad featuring Jodie Foster.
