Résumés. There are thousands of formats for résumés all over the Internet yet there never seems to be the perfect one for you. I recall sending my résumé to a friend a few weeks back, just for them to look over. Apparently it was so terrible and lackluster it needed a drastic change in appearance you would normally associate with beauty pageants. But while my résumé may be terrible (my friend despaired over it and apparently had a near mental breakdown looking at it) it appears that someone out there has mastered the knack of creating the one résumé to rule them all.
Enter Imgur user MrDeepImmersion, who recently posted pictures of his incredibly detailed and artistic résumé on the image sharing website.
“This is the resume I’m sending up to Wizards of the Coast! One of the Dungeons and Dragons staff members heard from a friend of mine about my passion for immersive gaming and dynamic story telling. They encouraged me to apply for a position in game design. At the time these pictures were taken, I was working full time with Walt Disney Imagineering but was seeking out new opportunities; however, my background is in electrical and computer engineering, so my resume reads VERY dry to companies with heavily creative backgrounds. I figured that I’m only going to get one shot at showing them I’m an diligent worker that understands story-telling and is comfortable with thinking outside the box. So they’re getting my hand-crafted “summoning” tablets which contain wax-sealed scrolls (my resume and cover letter).”
He initially started of by using a home built 3D printer and multiple CAD packages to print out the original tablet sides and then glueing the two tablet pieces together. Once that was done he went onto covering them with layers of primer before sanding the whole thing down so as to remove the striations from the 3D printing. He then went on to glue on the glyphs before giving the whole thing a layer of clear sealant to give it a glossy finish.
Once that was done he went on to create mold boxes and then made molds using silicone. He then used the molds to make copies of the tablets and added a filter to give them a marble stone texture. The next step was the test shattering to check if the tablets would actually break open when hit with enough force.
Once he spruced up his tablets even more, he prepared his résumé and cover letter and fit them inside the small alcove within the tablet. With that done he made a duplicate for a simple reason:
“There was a very good reason for sending 2 tablets. I expected that whoever cracks the first tablet open will be so surprised by what happened, that when they go to tell everyone about what they just experienced, but they will only have a handful of shattered fragments and some paper to show their co-workers. The second tablet is the one that really mattered. It would be the one that is delivered to the desk of the hiring department manager who REALLY needs to see it.”
He didn’t stop there though. MrDeepImmersion went on to create a museum artifact crate to house both the tablets and then promptly had it shipped not to the HR department but to the CEO.
