The new HTC One M8 smartphone has been officially revealed.
The phone is more or less similar to last year’s model with an aluminium unibody wrapping its way all around the handset and ditching the thin plastic strips on the sides and has an updated screen from 4.7-inches up to 5-inches.
On the back, you’ll find a ‘depth’ sensor mounted alongside the camera lens on the rear of the chassis which allows new levels of camera options including adjusting and refocusing after the image has been shot. HTC has also maintained its ‘Ultrapixel’ approach with the new HTC One (M8) rather than adding up the megapixel count with each new model.
The profile of the phone is slightly thinner (9.3mm) and more rounded off than on the previous model and little bit more comfy in the hand. It’s also slightly longer, and the soft keys have moved onto the screen.
HTC BoomSound has been upgraded with a new internal digital signal processing (DSP) chip. HTC says that this phone is 25 per cent louder than the original HTC One.
Inside, the phone holds a Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 processor running Google’s Android 4.4 KitKat as standard, topped with the latest version of HTC’s Sense: 6.0.
HTC’s news aggregator BlinkFeed received a facelift and now has the ability to add social media streams too in addition to different colour themes.
HTC has also added a few gesture enabled commands like the ability to unlock with a swipe, Or double tap the screen to display the lock screen briefly for a quick notification check.
Another interesting part of the HTC One is its case. HTC has created a Dot View case that provides information at a glance. The case displays key info like texts, emails, calls and weather notifications without activating the screen, and instead showing the info with a retro, dot-matrix style readout.
Paired with the metal finish, it’s a good look, and one that should help HTC stand out in the Android crowd.
HTC One M8 is available in a colour choice of Metal Grey, Gold or Arctic Silver.
No word on official pricing in the Middle East as yet.
Update: We’ve just spotted this video showing the HTC One M8’s capability to withstand water, wonder why HTC didn’t mention anything about it.
