Marriott Hotels showcases Virtual Reality Travel at the Arabian Travel Market

May 6

In its mission to redefine the future of travel, Marriott Hotels, the flagship brand of Marriott International, is taking a leap into the future of travel with Oculus Rift virtual reality technology. The brand’s Teleporter will be on display until May to 7th May at the Arabian Travel Mart (ATM) in Dubai as part of Marriott Hotels’ Travel Brilliantly campaign. Pre-selected visitors of the Marriott International booth at ATM will have the opportunity to “Get Teleported” instantly to see, hear and feel what it is like to be on a beach in Hawaii and high above the city of London.

During the Marriott Virtual Travel Experience, guests enter the Teleporter, where they will put on virtual reality headsets and headphones to be completely immersed in a virtual world. From there, they will visit a virtual version of a new Marriott Greatroom lobby, and then virtually travel to a black sand beach in Maui, Hawaii and to the top of a skyscraper in downtown London. While “traveling,” people will experience 4-D elements – the feeling of the warm sun on their skin, breeze in their hair, rumble of waves under foot and ocean spray in their face – to make the experience feel extremely lifelike. Here’s the video that you’ll see, it is in 360p though which doesn’t do justice to what you get to see on the Oculus.

Using the teleporter myself, I believe these are the kind of sensory experiences that guests really need to see. Needless to say when Virtual Reality does become the norm, previewing destinations and hotels may see you go from just looking at pictures to actually simulating the experience and possibly even interact with a system that does everything to book an itinerary to your tickets.

Introduced globally late last year, the unique 4-D immersive and sensory travel experience is a result of a partnership between Marriott Hotels and Academy Award-winning content and experience studio, Framestore. The initiative and wider campaign reinforces the brand’s commitment to shape the future of travel through engaging and co-creating with the millennial travellers.

“Through a series of dynamic and innovative initiatives, such as the virtual reality travel experience Teleporter, the brand is embracing technologies that will shape the future of travel and encourage travellers to explore and discover the world. Marriott Hotels’ Travel Brilliantly campaign is an empowering and creative platform that has captured the imagination of the next generation of travellers” Neal Jones, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer, Middle East & Africa at Marriott International.

Since the launch of Marriott Hotels’ transformational journey with its Travel Brilliantly campaign in June 2013 – Marriott Hotels has been engaging guests, experts and influencers to join with the brand in co-creating the future state of travel by asking “How can we make travel more brilliant?”
