Logitech’s New Mouse Mat Can Charge Compatible Wireless Mouses

Logitech Powerplay #1

Wireless gaming mouses are something I try to avoid. Even though there is a certain ease of use when it comes to the wireless peripherals my biggest fear is that I’ll forget to charge them and inevitably lose power when it inconveniences me the most. However, my fears might be put to rest if Logitech has anything to say about it. The PC gear company has just announced a new technology, the POWERPLAY Wireless Charging System which puts wireless charging directly into its mousepads.

“POWERPLAY creates an electromagnetic energy field over a large surface area – so you don’t have to rest your gaming mouse on a tiny charging target. This field is captured and transformed into charging current by the included POWERCORE module, which attaches magnetically to the underside of a compatible gaming mouse in place of the existing weight door. It’s designed to keep charging even through high-speed flick shots or lifting and repositioning, and its base is only 2mm thick – so it’s comfortable to use as a gaming surface.”

Chris Pate, Portfolio Manager – Gaming at Logitech.

The wireless charging system works by utilising an electromagnetic resonance that creates an energy field above POWERPLAY’s 275 x 320mm surface to deliver wireless power without interfering with the precise tracking and data transmission of high-performance gaming mice. Hence, by placing a mouse pad over the charging base and magnetically attaching a Logitech POWERCORE module to a compatible wireless gaming mouse, one can easily charge the mouse while even gaming. So far Logitech has unveiled two compatible gaming mice, the Logitech G903 and Logitech G703.

The Logitech POWERPLAY Wireless Charging System are expected at retailers in August 2017 for a suggested retail price of $99.99 (a choice of a hard or soft gaming mouse pad is also included). Meanwhile, the Logitech G903 and G703 LIGHTSPEED wireless gaming mice are expected at global retailers beginning in June 2017 for suggested retail prices of $149.99 and $99.99, respectively.
