When one thinks of LG smartphones, the LG G4 or the LG G5 come to mind. If not those two, then it’s the LG V10 or the LG V20. But another model LG released just last year was the LG X Power. A mid-range phone, it didn’t see widespread traction but that hasn’t stopped LG from announcing its successor, the LG X Power 2.
The announcement comes out ahead of the MWC, where the smartphone will be officially unveiled. LG touts that each model in the X line of smartphones “incorporates different exclusive features that are usually found only in premium smartphones”. In the case of the Power 2, it’s the battery. The LG X Power 2 features a powerful 4,500mAh battery ensuring you’ll be able to spend all day watching YouTube videos or playing your favourite mobile games. LG says that you’ll be able to spend an entire weekend operating on battery power alone, which will be a nice change for consumers who feel like that they’re lives, like their phones, are tethered to the closest power outlet.
On the internal powerhouse-front, the device is powered by an octa-core 1.5GHz chipset that is backed by either 1.5GB or 2GB of RAM. Meanwhile, users will have 16GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 2TB via a microSD card. It’s not a lot, to be honest, and all the specs seem subpar when contrasted with the battery size, which makes this feel more like a power bank than a modern day smartphone. However, LG has opted for a 5.5 1080p display which is slightly bigger and better than the display on the X Power.
Camera-wise, the X Power 2 has a single 13MP rear camera lens and a 5MP wide-angle forward facing camera. The smartphone will begin rolling out this March in the Latin America followed by key markets in United States, Asia, Europe and other regions. Pricing will be announced at the time of availability.
