The LG V10 was one of the best smartphones to come out of 2015. While it may not have been a perfect phone, according to my colleague, it “set the bar high for all other Android phones” that were to follow. About a month ago, during LG’s earning’s report, the company announced a successor to the V10, the LG V20.
The LG V20 will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 that will be bolstered by 4GB of DDR4 RAM. Consumers need not worry about backing files to the cloud due to lack of storage space as the LG V20 ships with a whopping 64GB of internal storage, that can be expanded with up to 256GB via a microSD card. The smartphone’s power reactor is a 3,200 mAh battery that features Quick Charge 3.0, which is a slight upgrade from the 3,000 mAH battery in the V10, and a USB-C port for lightning fast charging times. Furthermore, the battery is also removable, a trait from the LG G5.

The V20 is only 7.6mm thick, made from aluminum with a silicone based back, and looks strikingly familiar if you’ve had a LG G5. Thankfully, it retains the V10’s MIL-STD 810G rating when it comes to durability. Rather than one camera, the LG V20 continues the trend of dual cameras we’ve seen many flagship smartphones adopt. One of the rear facing cameras be a 16MP f/1.8 lens while the other will be a wide-angle lens featuring 8MP f/2.4. Meanwhile the forward facing camera will have 5MP and f/1.9.
The secondary screen once again makes a reappearance. A cause for both delight and anguish, LG now says the secondary screen is 50% brighter meaning you won’t miss out on all the notifications that are displayed there. It’ll also feature Nougat’s expandable notifications, which will let you interact with a notification without leaving your current app. And yes, this will be amongst the first smartphones to be shipped with Android Nougat out of the box. As a result, the V20 will also feature other nuggets of Nougat, such as multi-windows. The V20 also features a fingerprint scanner on the back.
The LG V20 will go on sale in South Korea next month in Titan (gray), Silver, and Pink colors. Prices have not been announced, and neither has availability for other parts of the world.
