LG rolls out a rollup OLED TV

We’ve seen the gradual evolution of TV screens, both in quality and in size. What were once CRTs became LCDs, then LEDs and now OLEDs. While a TV measuring 10 inches across would have once awed people, nowadays we don’t get impressed by anything short of  60 inches. But now LG have come up with a TV that’s bound going to have you on the edge of your seat, in fact you won’t even be sitting down cause you’re going to be touching it a lot: a roll up OLED TV.

With Netflix now available in the Middle East, we need to ask ourselves which device we’ll be using for out binge watching sessions; tablet, laptop, smartphone? TV’s have become a relic of the past coveted by generation X but it looks like this is one screen everyone’s going to be interested in. The 18-inch TV, that measures 0.18 mm thick, can be rolled up like a poster and slipped into your bag. And almost unbelievingly footage is displayed on the screen that looks flimsy and could be draped over a sofa’s armrest. Sure the resolution isn’t the best, at 810×2100, but it still looks surreal and there’s no doubt it will get a bump, this is a prototype after all.

Roll up TVs isn’t all that LG revealed. In a move that’s going to bring about a whole new dilemma about how to arrange your furniture, they put a TV screen, on the back of a TV. I guess we can bury our TV wall racks. The 55-inch dual OLED display is actually two different screens fastened together so that the back of the TV is eliminated. It measures just 4.9 mm thick. LG say it’s being designed to be utilised for displaying information, at airports for instance, but I’ll have to disagree by saying I want one in my living room. Both screens can accept a single source; I know I want to test out Battleship on it.
