LG’s future smartwatches could go WebOS by next year, according to sources from LG.
LG’s current smartwatches run Android Wear, but the company is said to be looking to break free from Google’s operating system and go with the platform they purchased from HP back in 2013.
We’re going to slowly try to build an (software) ecosystem around areas we can have more control over, said the unnamed source.
Sources have also indicated that LG could soon unveil a Sim-enabled smartwatch capable of making phone calls on its own, without the need of a smartphone.
The WebOS operating system was created by handset maker Palm, then acquired by Hewlett-Packard. LG bought WebOS from HP and added it into smart TVs.
