Lenovo’s launch of their new Legion gaming brand wasn’t the only thing the company unveiled at CES 2017. The company also unveiled the next generation of Lenovo ThinkPad X1 products as well as the Miix Tablet.
Taking centre stage this year is the fifth-generation Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon. In addition to being the lightest notebook in its class at under 2.5 pounds (1.14kg), it is also the smallest, fitting a high-quality 14-inch IPS display into a typical 13-inch form factor. Despite the smaller size, Lenovo has still packed a lot in. A full complement of ports including Thunderbolt 3, USB-Type A & HDMI are part of the I/O setup. Meanwhile an infrared camera, connectivity and security ensure the X1 Carbon delivers maximum performance on all fronts. The six-row ThinkPad keyboard with an improved Microsoft Precision Touchpad (with physical buttons!) and iconic TrackPoint complete the picture.
Available in classic ThinkPad black and a new silver colour, the X1 Carbon can also go for long hours; 15.5 according to Lenovo. Furthermore, augmenting the security of the device is a biometric fingerprint reader.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga also gets an update. Customers will get a laptop with multi-mode flexibility, high-performance functionality and a pen that “feels more natural”. It also shares many of the improvements from the X1 Carbon, with improved security and a complete set of ports including Thunderbolt 3. Once again you get great battery life, with 15 hours according to Lenovo. Meanwhile, the display on the X1 Yoga is a beautiful 14-inch OLED display capable of reproducing stunning colours, absolute blacks and 100 percent Adobe RGB colour space. Consumers can also opt for a lower resolution FHD display.
The last update for the ThinkPad family is the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Tablet. Not much has been done in this regard, with the X1 Tablet now boasting modules that offer port expansion and up to 5 hours’ extra battery life, or a properly integrated projection option for a seamless desk-to-projection experience. Furthermore, simplified serviceability and a wide range of docking options make the X1 Tablet virtually unique in the detachable segment.
The Miix Tablet is another tablet featured by Lenovo at CES 2017. Measuring in at just 0.57 in (14.6 mm) and 2.4 lbs (1.1 kg) including the precision touchpad-enabled keyboard, the Miix 720 barely registers. Boasting a 12-inch QHD+ touchscreen with 2880 x 1920 resolution, it delivers ultra-crisp clarity.
The Miix 720 (keyboard included) starts at $999.99, available in two colour options Champagne Gold and Iron Gray beginning in April 2017.Meanwhile, the optional Lenovo Active Pen 2 starts at $59.99, available beginning in February 2017.
