Lenovo Connect, Lenovo’s global roaming plan

Lenovo unveiled a whole set of new smartphones, laptops and tablets at the Mobile World Congress yesterday but one piece of tech may have slipped through the gaze of everyone: Lenovo Connect.

Lenovo Connect Is a new service the company is launching that has one goal: letting you connect to the internet around the world with a low-priced global roaming plan, i.e, the company is transforming into a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO). However don’t be so hasty in booking your tickets to Guangzhou yet; the roll out of the service will undoubtedly be slow. In fact the service is launching only in China for this month and only to those using a LeMeng X3 smartphone or a MIIX 700 tablet. Users will be able to use Lenovo Connect in upto 50 other countries around the world. As for the rest of us, Lenovo is working on rolling out Lenovo Connect in ThinkPad laptops for the Middle East, Europe and Africa. By the time Lenovo Connect is available in those areas, the service should be available in more than 110 countries.

“With the dawn of 5G and the Internet of Things, we expect to see the telecom market expand exponentially. Lenovo Connect and our mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services will help move us into the new, globally connected world by creating a seamless smart connection across networks, services and devices.”

– Wang Shuai, Vice President, Lenovo.

Lenovo has already been working on an MVNO for a while; it already has 11 million customers today.

Details on the full list of countries that support it as well as the prices of the data plans are still lacking.
