Dubai has officially banned the use of hoverboards in public areas according to Dubai Municipality. As stated in the municipality regulations, people who break the rules will have their hoverboards confiscated.
Sultan Al Suwaidi, deputy head of the municipality’s Public Health and Safety Department, told Gulf News that as per the new guidelines, hoverboards are prohibited in crowded areas, sidewalks, roads, and other public areas. They can only be used in designated parks that have an allocated space for bicycles.
The rules state that hoverboards should only be used in designated areas, which means that they are allowed on cycling tracks in parks and anywhere else that allow skateboards or bicycles, he said.
The new rules states that hoverboard users are now required to wear protective gear, such as helmets, gloves, elbows and knee pads.
What do you think? is it a good move by Dubai Municipality to join New York, Netherlands, UK and Hong Kong in prohibiting the use of hoverboards? Let us know your feedback.
