A strange bug related to the Safari browser is sporadically affecting various users of iPhones, iPods and Macs today. For quite a few users, simply tapping in the URL bar will cause the browser app to crash completely.
As noted by Steven Troughton-Smith, an iOS developer, the bug appears to be related to Apple’s Safari Suggestions service. Some Apple users are luckily not affected yet, though this could be due to having search suggestions cached locally.

Disabling Safari Suggestions option temporarily fixes the bug for many people on iOS. On your iPhone or iPad, go into Settings, tap Safari, and toggle off the ‘Safari Suggestions’ switch. You could also use Safari’s private browsing mode which doesn’t contact the suggestions server.
The crash has been experienced on iOS 8, iOS 9 and OS X 10.11, and it is likely it may spread to further platforms.
