A newly discovered iOS bug is causing Apple users headaches when a text message containing a specific set of characters is received forces their devices to reboot. The bug is a result of iOS’s inability to correctly render a specific string of characters written in Arabic.
Reports on Twitter suggest that Apple is aware of the problem and is working towards a solution. In the meantime, to protect yourself from being on the receiving end of such an unpleasant surprise, simply turn off the ‘show on local screen’ option under ‘Messages’ in the ‘Notifications’ settings of your phone. Also ensure the ‘Alert style when unlocked’ is set to ‘none’.
