In its continued effort to encourage innovation in science and research among Arab youths, Intel Corporation today announced that the company will hold this year’s Intel Science Competition Arab World (Intel SC Arab 2015) in Alexandria, Egypt, in association with Sharaf Foundation and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina (BA).

Set to take place from 17 to 19 December 2015, the competition will gather over 110 students from 11 Arab countries in Alexandria to present pioneering projects to an elite panel of judges, competing for a total of $20,000 financial awards, as well as additional special awards.

“It is our priority at Intel to continue fostering development and investing in the power of young Arab scientists, innovators and leaders. We consider it our duty to support our youth through mentorship, investment in research, innovation and education, in order to allow them to explore all opportunities with innovative approaches. We are honored to have the opportunity to work with these young bright minds, and the Intel team looks forward to welcoming them in Alexandria.” Taha Khalifa, Regional General Manager for Intel, Middle East & North Africa.

Eng. Hoda El Mikaty, Head of the BA Cultural Outreach Sector noted that the Bibliotheca Alexandrina has partnered with Intel Corporation and Sharaf Foundation to hold Intel SC Arab 2015 at the Library.

“The Library aims to enhance research and development among the youth on both regional and national levels. It is our belief that Intel SC Arab 2015 will encourage young Arab scientists and researchers to pursue their studies and careers in science and technology”, added Eng. Hoda El Mikaty, Head of BA Cultural Outreach Sector.

She emphasized that capacity building and investment in youth are the corner stone of the long term goal of building a knowledge society in Egypt and the MENA region.

Also commenting on the upcoming event, Dr. Essam Sharaf, former Egyptian Prime Minister and Chairman of Sharaf Foundation said “This competition is about connecting young minds with their regional peers to help them draw knowledge from one another, and providing them with an opportunity to become a leader in their chosen field of study. Sharaf Foundation is proud to be taking part in Intel SC Arab 2015, as we are dedicated to helping students hone their talents, so they can become active members of the community in the near future.”
