Super-fast auto-focus that is. For a while, Sony has been teasing about the “focus” feature in all its promotional material, and today, the company has introduced an incredibly sexy lineup of the Xperia Z5, including the 4.6″ Z5 Compact, the 5.2″ Z5 and the 5.5″ Z5 Premium – all coming with the all-new 23MP camera with 0.03s auto-focus.

All the models share identical specs (with minor yet major differences). They are all powered by the same 64bit Snapdragon 810; they are all water-proof and dust-proof; they all have a two-day battery; they all have the same camera.
The key difference between the three (other than the 2GB RAM on the Compact vs 3GB on the other two) is the screen. The Z5 Compact has a 720p screen; the Z5 has a full-HD screen; the Z5 Premium has a 4K screen. Yes, you’ve read that correctly: the Z5 Premium is the world’s first 4K phone.

While the look and feel are nearly identical to previous Xperia phones, there are important improvements. The power button now also serves as a fingerprint scanner, making it the first phone where fingerprint reading is done from the phone’s side in the natural position of your hand (if you’re right-handed, that is). The camera has also vastly improved, employing new mechanisms – including an insanely fast auto-focus – and allows it to zoom up to 5x without a loss in quality. Night photos have also been drastically improved.
We are pretty excited about the Xperia Z5. What do you think of the 4K resolution though? Is there enough material out there at the moment that supports 4K? Perhaps Sony will be leading the way into a new standard in display, but either way, it is an impressive feat.
