Huawei partners with Truecaller to be pre-installed on future phones

Huawei and Truecaller have partnered up in an interesting deal that will see Truecaller’s app pre-installed on future Huawei phones. The interesting bit is that there is no financial agreement to this deal; it’s a strategic one. Our guess is that the keyword here is “pre-installed” rather than “baked in”.

With Truecaller having over 90 million monthly active users, and Huawei’s strong sales, the two will be leveraging each other’s success to further expand their own unique offers. From Truecaller’s perspective, having its app pre-loaded on all Huawei phones will potentially increase its user base; from Huawei’s perspective, the company is trying to further differentiate its product offering from the rest of the android market. We have seen how Huawei is sticking with its Emotion UI rather than scaling back like Samsung and HTC have done.

“As we were planning the launch of our flagship device Honor 8, we were looking for partners who can truly redefine the user experience, Truecaller was an obvious choice to help improve the native calling functions. They provide an indispensable service for millions of users each day. We are joining hands to ensure that respective brands get the best of both worlds,” – George Zhao, president of Huawei’s Honor
