Huawei has unveiled a 4.5G Smartband at an event in London, claiming it’s the world’s first LTE-M wearable fitness device.
The device will make use of an LTE-M chip made by Neul, the company that was acquired by the Chinese smartphone maker last year and will be ready to connect on the next-generation 4.5G connectivity that the Huawei plans to roll out.
Details of the device aren’t available yet but expected to have a 1.4-inch OLED screen, NFC and Bluetooth connectivity, and be resistant to water. The band will track a user’s fitness levels and will be able to pair with other IoT (cellular Internet of Things) devices, such as smart thermostats and energy readers.
Huawei said that 4.5G will deliver up to 1Gbps on mobile networks when it rolls out commercially in 2015.
More info will be revealed at next week’s MWC in Barcelona.
