Chinese smartphone manufacturer, Huawei, has had its sub-brand, Honor, reveal its new flagship smartphone of 2017, the Honor V9. Huawei, which much like other Chinese smartphone manufacturers such as Xiaomi, is famous for releasing top-notch smartphones. While the Huawei flagship smartphone of 2016 was the Huawei Mate 9, the Honor brand’s flagship smartphone in the same year was the Honor 8.
The Honor sub-brand differs from its parent brand Huawei by solely competing against other online budget brands. The affordable smartphones come packed with great hardware and specifications and the Honor V9 is no exception.
The Honor V9 features a 5.7-inch QHD display with 2.5D curved glass and is powered by Huawei’s latest Kirin 960 SoC, which has four Cortex A73 cores clocked at 2.4GHz complemented by four 1.8GHz Cortex A53 cores and a Mali G71 GPU. Consumers will have the option of purchasing the 4GB or the 6GB variant, which comes with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage respectively. That can be expanded via MicroSD cards by up to 128 GB.
When it comes to photos, the Honor V9 has dual 12MP cameras at the back with 1.76-micron pixel size and laser autofocus. One of the cameras has a monochrome sensor, similar to other dual camera arrangements by Huawei. The rear cameras will be able to shoot 4K footage. Meanwhile, for your selfie needs, an 8MP front camera is installed. Other features include a fingerprint reader, IR blaster, Bluetooth 4.2, NFC, Wi-Fi ac, USB-C, and a 4000mAh battery.
Software-wise, the Honor V9 will be running the revamped EMUI 5.0 skin, the same seen on the Mate 9, which is on top of Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Honor V9 will be available in Midnight black, Flame Red, Platinum Gold and Aurora Blue and will start selling on February 28th. There will be three different versions of the smartphone, each for a different price. A model with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage for ($377), a version with 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage for ($435), and a high-end model with 6GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage for ($510). While the Honor V9 is currently only available in China, it will be marketed to the rest of the world under the name “Honor 8 Pro” later this year.
