At their Global Anniversary Eventin Beijing, celebrating the Huawei Honor’s first anniversary, Huawei launched the newest additions to its flagship device line-up, showcasing the Honor 6 Plus Smartphone alongside the Spree 4X smartphone and its Honor TV Box.
Honor’ was first showcased as a new line of devices from Huawei last year and has since experienced impressive sales results, which were presented to hundreds of foreign and domestic media organizations at its anniversary event in Beijing, China. The past year saw phenomenal growth within the Honor category, with unit sales of over 20m and a sales revenue of US$3bn, representing a nearly thirty-fold increase.
The Honor 6 Plus uses the Kirin 925 octa-core chipset and provides 4G LTE CAT6 connectivity with a download speed of up to 300 Mbps that is the fastest in the industry. The premium edition supports dual SIM cards. It provides a dual-channel ultra-large RAM with the 3 GB LPDDR3 module, a CPU frequency of 800 MHz, a 16 GB/32 GB ROM with the eMMC 5.0 module, and a microSD card support of up to 128 GB.
It also sports a 5.5-inch 1080p JDI negative liquid crystal screen, a 3600 mAh battery, SmartPower 2.5, SmartControl 2.5, simple but elegant operating system, EMUI 3.0, as well as new features including the Honor Wallet and geo-fence.
The Spree 4X, is high-end Honor handset, which boasts the new 64-bit Kirin processor and supports a wide range of network spectrums worldwide. The Honor TV Box provides consumers with 4K Ultra HD clarity.
Honor 6 Plus brings a camera revolution for smartphones
Based on achievements in software technologies, the R&D team of the Honor 6 Plus has developed the triple IE algorithm engine that has obtained several dozens of patents, the dual-camera design, and the unique photography algorithm, realizing the single-lens reflex grade capture experience on smartphones.
Unlike single camera smartphones, the unique dual-camera design enables the Honor 6 Plus to capture scenes by simultaneously using the dual cameras. The amount of captured light and the light-sensing area of dual cameras are twice as much as those of a single camera, and the effective pixel size increases to 1.98 um (a 60% increase in sensitivity to light), which marks a revolutionary improvement in the field of physical imaging.
Equipped with a wide aperture of F0.95 and a capability of recording depth of field ranging from 70 mm to infinity, the Honor 6 Plus is able to present single-lens reflex grade photos with bokeh. Different from single-lens reflex cameras, the Honor 6 Plus is like a computer that has a strong post processing capability. For example, similar to light-field cameras, the Honor 6 Plus lets users to adjust the width of the aperture (from F0.95 to F16) after they have taken a photo to obtain different degrees of the bokeh effect, or even the Extended Depth-of-Field (EDoF) effect.
The triangulation ranging between the dual cameras and the captured object, and the closed-loop focus motor enable the Honor 6 Plus to finish focusing within 100 ms. Such a feature lets users capture every wonderful moment around them. A new set of depth of field based filters, such as tilt shift, sketch, monochrome, and comics, are designed to make photos more fun.
Through its unique dual cameras, Honor 6 Plus is able to capture images and record depth of field at the same time. The amount of captured light and the light-sensing area of dual cameras are twice as much as those of a single camera, and the effective pixel size increases to 1.98 um (a 60% increase in sensitivity to light). This means noise can be significantly reduced to ensure clear images even in an environment with weak ambient light.
The multi-frame hot pixel reduction algorithm of Huawei’s dedicated triple IE algorithm engine and the vision camera technology enable the Honor 6 Plus to capture every detail at night. The ultra-night mode is able to calculate the exposure time, which lets the Honor 6 Plus easily capture the beauty of night scenes.
The Honor 6 Plus also scores in the capture performance in environments of strong backlight. The HDR mode of dual cameras reduces the blurred impact caused by phone instability, greatly eliminating dark areas on photos. Even in environments with strong backlight, the photos taken by the Honor 6 Plus have clear images and delicate dark details.
Besides the variable aperture, night scene shooting and HDR mode, the revolutionary capture experience of the Honor 6 Plus is also reflected on the usefulness and fun of shooting applications. The screen off snapshot function allows users to take a snapshot by double-pressing the volume down button when the screen is off. The camera can be used as a scanner to scan words to get online translations, or QR codes and bar codes to get product information with no need for an additional scanning application.
Additionally, the Honor 6 Plus carries the DNA of the Honor series in terms of high-performance selfies. With the Sony 8 MP BSI front camera, a wide angle of 22 mm, and a capture angle of 80 degrees, users can have a larger selfie range under panoramic mode. The preview window on the viewfinder lets users take selfies with better looks. Ten level modifiable smart beautify, as well as Real-time smart beautify during video chats and video recording, is also available for users to show the best look to friends and families.
