Huawei has had a solid year so far, dishing out great smartphones and strengthening their relationship with camera experts Leica. Leica lenses have appeared in the P9, P9 Plus, and the Mate 9. While its main line of Huawei branded smartphones has been making headway, Huawei’s other line of e-commerce smartphones, the Honor line has also had success. Smartphones such as the Honor 8 and the Honor Note 8 were successful due to their affordable pricing that didn’t sacrifice performance. And to wrap up the Honor line for the year, Huawei revealed the Honor Magic, an experimental product.

This is an experimental product of ours. This concept phone will help us pre-evaluate uncertain future technologies.”

– Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s Consumer Business Group.

Powered by a Kirin 950, the Honor Magic features a 5.09-inch 2K AMOLED curved screen that has a QHD resolution at 577 ppi. The Honor Magic also sports a stylish and ergonomic design, with a 3D curved glass body. It has a few other nifty gimmicks as well such as a “WiseScreen” sensor which lets users unlock their phone by simply picking up and looking at the screen. The “FaceCode” intelligent recognition feature, on the other hand, ensures total privacy by only revealing message notifications to the pre-registered face.

To further improve user experience, the Honor Magic houses the Honor Magic Live system, which anticipates users’ needs and facilitate their daily lives by offering a whole host of predictive information. The Honor Magic Live system is, for instance, able to formulate a range of customised recommendations based on users’ social conversations via instant messaging apps– conversations revolving around movies will trigger blockbuster recommendations.

This works in tandem with Honor Magic’s Smart Display, which proactively retrieves and displays practical information, anticipating users’ need. For example, ordering a cab with Honor Magic will trigger the driver’s license plate number to be displayed on the screen.

Meanwhile, charging the battery has also been amped up with Huawei “Magic Power”, a proprietary speed charging technology, which recharges 70% of the battery in 20 minutes, and 40% in 10 minutes.

Other specifications include 4GB of RAM plus 64GB of internal storage, the same set of cameras as the Honor 8 (a 12-megapixel f/2.2 dual-lens camera plus an 8-megapixel f/2.4 selfie camera), global LTE bands and dual SIM connectivity (but secondary SIM is limited to 2G).

“The Honor Magic encapsulates our commitment to cutting-edge innovation and technology. Through this launch, we at Honor are telling our fans around the globe that we are genuinely committed to challenging ourselves and willing to disrupt the status quo to ultimately be able to bring the best mobile-internet experience to them.”

– George Zhao, president of Honor.
