Hey, Siri, say hello to Viv

GEEK DESK

May 5

Siri might soon be getting a sibling.  And Siri might be a little bit jealous, for that sibling — Viv — is shaping up to be everything their parents wanted Siri to be.

A little back story: Siri was co-founded by Dag Kittlaus and Adam Cheyer.  After disagreements with Apple on how Siri should ideally function, the duo have left the company and have been working with a small team (that also formerly worked on Siri) to develop Viv — which they are crafting in the original vision they had for Siri.

By integrating with third party services (instead of third party apps), you can use Viv to order a pizza from a local restaurant with whatever toppings you want, and Viv will place an order for you.  Similarly, asking Viv to book a ride will get your Uber sent right away.

Coming Monday, the company will be publicly showcasing Viv, so stay tuned for updates.
