The Pokémon franchise has developed a cult following over the years, and the phenomenon is finally coming to the real world with the introduction of a new augmented reality game for iOS and Android, called Pokémon Go.
Not to be confused with the Go series from Square Enix (the critically acclaimed Hitman GO and Lara Croft GO), Pokémon Go is a collaborative work between Nintendo and Niantic, the formerly Google subsidiary that created the very popular augmented reality game Ingress.
There isn’t much information on the actual gameplay, but the trailer released gives us some hints, such as finding and collecting Pokémon (obviously), trading Pokémon, one-on-one battles with other players, group-vs-group battles, and an interesting mega event where everyone unites in an attempt to capture overpowered Pokémon.
Nintendo is also developing a “companion gadget” that is a band tracker which vibrates whenever Pokémon are nearby in the real world.
No more core details have been provided, except that the game is slated for a 2016 release.
