Let’s assume you’re a policeman, sitting in the (un)comfort of your vehicle waiting for something interesting to happen (and hoping that nothing happens, really, because we aren’t advocate of crimes). But out of the blue, this road rage maniac zips by at lightning speed. Your adrenaline begins to power up your body for a car chase that might make national news.
Except that the car isn’t going at lightning speed, and there was hardly any chase. But you did make the news.
Yes, an officer had to pull over one of Google’s autonomous vehicle for “slow driving” — a fine that hardly anyone will ever get in this day and age. No tickets have been issued, though. Google’s cars have been programmed to drive a maximum of 25mi/h (40km/h), and the road the car happened to be on is in a 35mi/h zone.
These car have been going on for 1.2 million miles now without incident, so it goes to say that we suck at driving.
