If you’re heading on a holiday soon, you’re in luck. Google unveiled its latest service, Google Trips yesterday, a platform that will make planning and organising your trips incredibly easy, removing some of that travel stress from yourself.
Google Trips, the technology giant’s latest app serves as both a travel planner and a travel guide. It’s available for free on both iOS and Android and looks to be a TripAdvisor killer. It will organise your plane tickets and hotel reservations, offer editorial guides to more than 200 cities, and even make personalized recommendations based on your Google history. But the crème de la crème
is the fact that you can do all this, while offline. That’s right, no longer will you have to immediately get a SIM card and a data plan when you arrive at a new city in far off country, nor will you have to buy frappuccinos at Starbucks to get some WiFi.
Trips is the culmination of more than two years of work on improving Google’s travel products, said Richard Holden, a vice president of product management at the company. In recent months Google introduced Destinations, a travel-planning feature inside mobile search, and revamped its hotel and flight search features. Google Trips makes use of all these features in a small, sleek app.
All you need to use Google Trips is a Google account, the app will let you switch between multiple accounts. Once you’ve logged in, you’ll be able to plan future trips, make reservations, see hotel information and so forth. There’s even a section that provides the mandatory information you need to know, such as the emergency numbers in that country.
And if you ever get bored and aren’t sure of what to do, Trips can even organise an itinerary for you, telling you what to do and where to visit during your visit.
When you do have a decent connection to the internet, Trips will sync in the background and will pull in real-time information about which destinations are open or closed. Furthermore, the app will change its recommendations based on the time of the day and weather, so you won’t be prompted to visit the park on a rainy day, at night.
