Google Pay, who would have thought, right? 😛
Reports are suggesting that Google may be developing a new payment gateway, a separate service from Google Wallet. Ars Technica has reported that the search engine giant is getting ready to announce a new mobile payments API called Android Pay at Google’s I/O conference in May. The new platform will power in-store and in-app payments for third-party apps in a single tap.
According to the report, Android Pay will be “built from the ground up”, while keeping Google Wallet alive and upgraded to support Android Pay. This functionality will give users the option to link their Google Wallet to third-party apps with Android Pay integration.
In addition of being a new payment option for billions of Android users, ultimately for Google, it would mean purchasing data that could be used to target its online ads, highlighting a clear difference in privacy approach between Apple Pay and Android Pay, Google would be able to see every transaction made, while Apple won’t.
