Google wants to remind people that they too have a music streaming service. The search giant announced a free ad-supported music streaming service on Tuesday, just a week ahead of the expected launch of Apple’s own $9.99 streaming service, Apple Music.
Users will be able to listen to custom-made radio stations based on time of day, mood, artist or other factors. The new stations will be built in part by the staff of Songza, which google now owns.
Unlike the paid version of Google Play Music, the free, ad-supported service won’t be able to play songs on-demand and will have a limited skip allowance.
The service is currently available online in select territories and as an app for iOS and Android devices.
