Google has unveiled a new web interface for Hangouts, positioning it directly with Skype and Facebook Messenger. The website gives users access to audio, video calls and its chat platform.
From our new site you’ll be able to take advantage of the best of Hangouts in the browser, along with an inspiring image to get you through the day, said Google’s Software Engineer Jordanna Chord.
When you first open the site, few cards detailing the website and the service pop up. A list of Google Hangouts conversations is shown at the left-side of the screen, while at the centre of the page three circular buttons for initiating a video call, phone call or message appear. On the left, users have some options to access contacts and phone calls tabs. There’s also a hidden side panel which overflows on the screen when users click on the ‘More’ below the phone tab.
