Our planet has changed significantly the past few decades: climate change, deforestation, and urbanisation have dramatically changed the landscape of our planet. Google Earth Timelapse gives us a window to this past, where you can see how our landscape has changed over the past 32 years.
In partnership with Carnegie Mellon University CREATE Lab’s Time Machine library, and the Earth Engine, 5 million satellite images have been combined to create the interactive timelapse. Although some points of interest are highlighted in the tool, you can search for any location you can think of and you would see the progress through time. It’s surreal, especially if you choose cities and see how the population growth changes the landscape.
