It’s the end of an era for the Motorola smartphones brand. Lenovo, which bought Motorola from Google back in 2014, said the new brand will be relaunched under “Moto by Lenovo.”
In an interview during CES, Motorola Chief Operating Officer Rick Osterloh said that Lenovo will offer premium devices under the ‘Moto by Lenovo’ brand name, in addition to budget phones that will be released under Lenovo’s Vibe range.
We’ll slowly phase out Motorola and focus on Moto. Motorola COO Rick Osterloh
Lenovo said that the move is to make the brand stronger and protect it. “It’s our treasure. We plan to not only protect the Motorola brand, but make it stronger.” Lenovo’s CEO Yang Yuanqing said. The company confirmed that the Moto logo (M symbol) will still be used on the Moto devices along side the blue Lenovo logo.
It’s sad to see such a brand slowly disappear, Motorola was the leader in cell phones when it all started. We’ll never forget the DynaTAC and StarTAC……the simple days.
