Future Android phones to have pressure-sensitive screens as the norm

Apple (and Huawei, just slightly before it) will be leading the way into the next revolution in mobile interactions, but the rest of the android community will be getting the “Force Touch” capabilities soon, should the OEMs start adopting the new technology from Synaptics.

That new screen technology is the new ClearPad 3700, a display controller that detects pressure. It could enable variable speed scrolling, photo pan and zoom, contextual menus (hopefully can be customised on android) among other features.

This exciting next step in human interface for smartphones will soon become the norm and highlights Synaptics’ leadership in force. — Kevin Barber, Senior VP, Synaptics Smart Display Division

Let’s hope it’s not just Huawei that will continue to use this technology, and that Google will integrate this as a native feature of the operating system.  For now, though iPhone 6s users will get to enjoy this feature until everyone else catches up.
