Recently, Facebook introduced third-party apps and services to its messenger app in an attempt to push users to do more with friends instead of just chatting. These third party apps included animated GIFs apps like Giphy, which proved to be popular. But now, the social network giant is taking GIFs one step forward in a series of trials.
Some Messenger users are now seeing a “GIF” option in their app, which allows them to quickly choose from a selection of animated GIFs to which they can then send to their friends. Prior to this push, users had to install Animated GIF apps like Giphy first to be able to use them.
Facebook has confirmed this feature in a statement to TechCrunch.
GIFs have seen success as a rich media format within Messenger. With this feature, we’re testing various ways to make it even easier to send great content — like GIFs — with just a few taps.
