Etisalat has announced the launch of their new service that comes packaged in an app, Etisalat Wallet! The app, which you can download from the Apple App store and the Google Play store, will allow Etisalat users to utilize a number of services available on the app. The service has been in the works for more than a year.
Such services include paying utility bills, paying parking bills, using the e-wallet for purchases made at select stores, all while getting rewards for each transaction. Furthermore, users will also get detailed reports and notifications regarding each transaction, streamlining the accounting you have to do. The Etisalat Wallet is the financial component of the UAE Smart Government initiative, which aims to modernize many aspects of life; so far they have identified over 90 services provided by government departments that require digital payment. Thus, using the Etisalat Wallet, users can be used to make secure transactions in these areas.
In a statement to Gulf News Khaled Al Khouly, Chief Consumer Officer at Etisalat, said the following:
“The service is available in 17 of its global operations. The scope of services introduced in each market varies based on consumer demands, market maturity as well as regulatory requirement. As we move forward, we will introduce more advanced services that align with our customers’ comfort level and demand. Etisalat is offering services in line with the UAE’s Central Bank regulations. The Central Bank has currently executed exceptional work in the development of the UAE’s ‘digital payments’ regulatory framework. Etisalat’s mobile-to-mobile money transfer service expansion will follow immediately after this regulatory framework is ramified and once we secure Central Bank approvals.”
While the service is just getting on its feet, it will be expected to be implemented in a number of phases, with the UAE Banks Federation coordinating the project with 49 banks within the UAE. The e-wallet works by linking a valid debit or credit card to the app as well as a valid phone number. Your National ID number will also be required to set up an account.
Etisalat has a similar app for managing Etisalat-only services.
