The Dubai World Trade Centre successfully achieved today a Guinness World Record for most participants riding in a virtual reality roller coaster in one hour at GITEX Technology Week, putting Dubai on the map as a global hub for VR innovation and earning a place in the history books.

Powered by Samsung, 461 GITEX participants strapping on Samsung Gear virtual reality headsets powered by Oculus while being thrilled by a visual roller coaster presented in a 4DX theatre. Organisers had expected 250 people and smashed through the record overwhelmingly with nearly double the number.

“Virtual reality has rapidly advanced to enter the mainstream in transforming experiences in entertainment, education, and healthcare. Attempting this virtual reality world record underlines Dubai’s commitment to innovation, and GITEX Technology Week as one of the world’s leading events for immersive technologies.”

– C. Purushothaman, Head of Marketing (Smartphones & Tablets), IT & Mobile Division at Samsung Gulf Electronics.

GITEX Technology Week is currently running from 16-20 October 2016 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

“At GITEX Technology Week, showcasing the latest virtual reality innovations and breaking world records shows how the show is a platform for serious business, and serious fun.”

– Trixie LohMirmand, the Senior Vice-President for Exhibitions and Events Management at the Dubai World Trade Centre.
