Dubai Police Cyber Investigation Department prevents thefts worth Dh9m

The Cyber Investigation Department at Dubai Police has successfully prevented cyber theft attempts worth Dh9 million since the beginning of 2015.

901 cyber crimes cases were recorded since the beginning of 2015 till June 23, said Major General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs,

[quote type=”border_left”]Overall, crimes in the UAE are decreasing, and so are cyber crimes, he said.[/quote]

In 2014, the Cyber Investigation Department prevent 1576 cyber thefts cases worth Dh28 million. Cyber crimes included stealing, fraud, extortion and blackmail, impersonating others, stealing phone services and using them unlawfully, phishing for the purpose of fraud, hacking, libel and slander, security breaches, and violation of intellectual property rights.

 [quote type=”border_left”]Dubai Police are ready to deal with all types of cyber crime thanks to trained and qualified teams that work at the department. The team keeps up with the latest technological developments and works with officers in their field across the world to stay informed of the latest trends.  Maj Gen Al Mansouri said.[/quote]

The cyber investigation department now has 58 people in addition to 45 who are studying abroad to meet the future needs of the department in the fight against cyber crime. Of the 45, 20 are studying digital evidence.

Major Juma said there is a constant increase in the use of digital evidence, as people are becoming more and more dependent on the use of technology in all aspects of their lives.
