Dropbox is a familiar household name: it’s that pretty little place up in the clouds that has you store your data. You’ve probably been subjecting to it while activating an HTC or a Samsung phone, giving you plenty of more ample space without having to opt in for monthly or annual payments.
The company, however, ventured into the emailing platform with Mailbox on iOS supporting Gmail accounts. It’s become a sensation with the clean aesthetics, and boastful iOS owners have bashed android’s inferior mailing apps (aside from Google’s vanilla mailing app which I think is great).
Fast forward to today, and Dropbox made a few important announcements. Mailbox is coming to android (supporting Gmail only at the moment), launched a new app called Carousel for both platforms, and took on Condoleezza Rice as a board member.
Mailbox needs no introduction. Carousel (iTunes | Google Play) can be seen as a Dropbox media gallery viewer and synchroniser; it uploads photos and/or videos from your phone to the Dropbox clouds and provides a clean and simple interface for you to view and share the photos. In other words, it is an interface to the “upload camera photos” function that has been in Dropbox main app for a while.
As for Condoleezza Rice … that sure is gonna be turning lots of heads and people will wonder what will be happening to all their stuff and the snooping.
