Dropbox’s website went offline late Friday night and still is unusable to some users till this time. The company released a statement saying the issue occurred during “routine internal maintenance.” The hacker group “The 1775 Sec” said otherwise and took to Twitter to state that they were responsible for downing Dropbox, and that they did so in honor of late programmer and activist Aaron Swartz .
Anonymous followed in support. The 1775 Sec also said that they were giving Dropbox time to resolve vulnerabilities in their systems, threatening a database exposure.
Dropbox did not deny the possibility of a hack, and responded with:
“We have identified the cause, which was the result of an issue that arose during routine internal maintenance, and are working to fix this as soon as possible… We apologize for any inconvenience.”
