Google Chrome, the browser everyone uses till they inevitably tire from the constant crashes & memory leaks before switching to Firefox. Not much has changed for Google’s desktop web browser over the years in terms of design and look; it’s only saving grace are the skins people design for the browser to make it look somewhat more appealing. That may soon change.

Google has been pushing its Material Design over the years, ever since the Nexus 5 was the flagship device, and it looks like it may finally give the web browser a Material finish. According to a recently filed request on Google Code, it’s expected the first Material Design tweaks will appear in Chrome OS starting with version 50. The flat design is evident in the early screenshots, with the few buttons available in Chrome also getting a polish. There’s also an all-black Incognito mode (to immerse you in your hidden agendas), and a simplified settings and downloads page. The famous “hamburger” menu icon has also been kicked to the curb. Other small changes include new icons and tweaking the scroll bar.

If you want to try some of the tweaks in your browser, many of these options are available for testing right now. You can activate it by entering chrome://md-settings in your search bar.
