Peace starts with a burger it seems.
In ads that ran in The New York Times and The Chicago Tribune, Burger King has extended an olive branch to seek truce with its rival Ronald McDonald……..for one day.
Burger King is proposing the “McWhopper,” a hybrid of both company’s signature burgers: the Big Mac and Whopper that will be sold for one day in a pop-up store in one specific city in the U.S. The pop up store would be operated by staff from both companies.
The goal of this proposal is to donate the proceeds of this day to Peace One Day, a nonprofit organization seeking to raise awareness of the International Day of Peace.
Corporate activism on this scale creates mass awareness and awareness creates action and action saves lives, Jeremy Gilley, founder of Peace One Day, said in a video.
McDonald’s chief executive responded to the invite on Facebook and Twitter, and said he would be “in touch” with Burger King, but did not confirm accepting the proposal.
The response is pretty clear that this won’t be happening anytime soon, but nevertheless good try Burger King, even if it was just a marketing gimmick.
Here’s the video Burger King released to explains what the new burger is.
