The British army is creating a new division of online soldiers. The new 77th Brigade will include hundreds of members that will engage in what is described as “non-lethal warfare” on Facebook.
The new division which will formally start in April is said to engage in psychological operations aimed influencing the opinions of civilians in different parts of the world. The recruitment includes individuals with journalism skills and familiarity with social media.
77th Brigade is being created to draw together a host of existing and developing capabilities essential to meet the challenges of modern conflict and warfare. It recognises that the actions of others in a modern battlefield can be affected in ways that are not necessarily violent, an army spokesman said.
